Hoda Mallone
I am a journalist, writer, screenwriter and producer based in Los Angeles, Calif. My work has been published in The Los Angeles Times, Electric Literature, Premium Magazine, The Los Angeles Daily News, Orange County Register, and more.
Currently, I am a recurring contributor at PEOPLE Magazine and contributor to Southern California News Group. Previously, I worked in the Fashion industry for 20 years as a creative director, producer, and consultant - creating visually stunning photography and video content for many successful companies. Taking a project from concept to completion has always been my specialty. Whether it’s a novel, short story, a story for the screen, or a story for a campaign, I know how to craft a narrative.
Being an Egyptian-American woman of color who has lived in Southern California most of her life, a mother, and a student of the human experience, I bring a wealth of lived experience to everything I put on the page. The pull to writing has always been in me, since before I won the Long Beach Press Telegram “Scary Story Contest” at sixteen years old. The compulsion to find the truth guided me to earn my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice. And although life takes us on interesting and winding paths, I found my way back to my first love, writing, and have never looked back.
My writing explores dark and complicated themes and the lives and experiences of diverse people and characters from all over the world; in particular, the hardships of women, racial injustices, gender inequality, and the cultural and political atmosphere around these issues.
I hold an MFA in Fiction and Creative Non-fiction Writing from the UCR Palm Desert Low Residency MFA program, was the Managing Editor for The Coachella Review, and have worked for then Senator, Presidential Candidate, and now Vice President Kamala Harris.
